Who am I?
I am Robert, more commonly known as Bobby, and I am a Web Designer.
I was born in September 1984 in Glasgow and have lived in the same area all of my life. I attended school in the southside of the city before going to Glasgow Caledonian University in 2002.
I first got into web design in my early teens, running fan websites for various things using free hosting tools such as Homestead or Angelfire; the more and more I got into it the more I started to appreciate the design aspect of the web and realised that this was more than a hobby and more something that I wanted to do for a career.
My creativity, attention to detail and enthusiasm for web design grew and grew over the years and I continually look to push myself further learning new techniques as much as humanly possible.
Education
As previously mentioned I attended school in the southside, amongst other subjects I took up Computing as a Standard Grade & Higher as well as Art & Design to show off my more creative side.
At Glasgow Caledonian University I enroled in a 2 Year University Diploma in Multimedia Visualisation with Product Design; this covered everything from graphic design, 3D modelling and multimedia to web design. Once I completed my Diploma I enroled for a further 2 years and took up an Honours Degree in Applied Graphics Technology with Multimedia where I enhanced my graphical skills, taking up animation as well as some video editing, production and of course web design thrown in for good measure.
I graduated from University in June 2006.
Work Experience
I got my lucky break in October 2006 when I landed a job as a Trainee Web Designer at Arnold Clark; I was promoted to a Web Designer within 6 months after management had an insight into what I could do.
Over the course of the next few years on top of designing several user facing websites and internal services, I had the chance to use my 3D modelling skills and video production to produce a television advert single handedly, I have had the task of producing interactive multimedia presentations that were distributed on USB sticks and also producing hi resolution video to be broadcast at the Glasgow iMAX for special events.
The biggest job I have had to date was to redesign and build the new company website from scratch; using Photoshop to put my user interface design skills to the test as well as having a relatively free choice in colour selection my final design was chosen from numerous attempts and then I had the task of producing W3C compliant XHTML with CSS templates to go into the company’s CMS (Content Management System).
The website went live in July 2009 to replace the already award winning arnoldclark.com site and continued on where the previous site left off, by winning awards.
You can see these examples of my work in my portfolio.
I currently still work with Arnold Clark Automobiles but I am open to taking on any freelance projects in my own time, if you have a project you feel that I could be useful on, please get in touch and I'll be happy to hopefully help.
